I believe that every event, every thought, every point of view is unique. We only describe them in similar terms because we have to in order to teach or communicate. Nevertheless, we attach to other people because something resonates with them, because we think we have something in common. What we have is a shared predicament. I believe strongly in both our uniqueness and our sameness. When I was young I was very religious - a pentecostal, in fact. I gave that up many years ago. But I could not shake off the questions it raised. I have spent the rest of my life trying to understand how we all come to be in this predicament and I dare say I shall die still wondering. Hopefully, only then will I get the answer - but that's only if I am in any fit state to appreciate it!
